FESTIVAL de PUYCELSI 2020 | Academy

CHORUS & instrumental ensemble

Our Academy is open to everyone!

We will be rehearsing every day during the academy! Our musical preparation is intensive, and requires a minimum of experience in a chorus or orchestra.
Academy participants are to arrive in Puycelsi on July 7, 2020, after 4 p.m. The first rehearsal will take place on Wednesday July 8 at 10 a.m. The final concert will take place in Puycelsi on July 17.
Participants should arrive having studied the music in advance!

Choir members: in addition to the sheet music, participants, will be able to download audio/mp3 files in advance to prepare for the festival.
Please print out your materials at home and bring the printouts with you for the festival.

Participants will be coming from many different countries: The main language used during rehearsal will be French, English and German will also be used as needed.

Additional activities

In addition to our activities of the entire group (rehearsals, concerts, meals, outings...) there will also be activities in smaller groups (separate voice group and orchestra rehearsals, workshops in movement/breathing/voice for the singers, personalized help for instrumentists ...), as well as less formalized activities in the cafés and restaurants or in the festival garden. Attendance of the daily rehearsals at the designated times are absolutely necessary for group concert preparation, but there will be plenty of rest times and opportunities to explore the village and take lovely walks along the paths of the surrounding countryside.

One place, one spirit

Puycelsi is an exquisite jewel set in a breathtaking natural environment, far from the great beaten paths of communication. Our village has survived over the centuries with its character and spirit intact, and it will be a great pleasure for us to share its history and life today with you, the participants.
There will be many opportunites to discover the surrounding countryside; some of the rehearsals will be held in quaint churches in smaller nearby villages. Discover the local gastronomical producs (wine, honey, orchard fruits...), browse through the local bookshop, enjoy the occasional musical impromptus in the village or be part of a masterclass, and experience the friendliness of the local inhabitants...

Practical details...

Meals

There are several flexible solutions offered for meals: you can take care of your own meals, or book a meal plan (breakfast + lunch, or breakfast + lunch + dinner). Meals include tasty local wine (of course in moderation!!).
We place great emphasis on the quality of the provided foot: meals are prepared by a local caterer who is supplied by local produce.
Participants chose and pay for the accomodations themselves.
Help from our HARP volunteers is available in chosing, finding and booking accomodations in the village and surroundings: There are accomodations for every taste and pocketbook, everything from camping to small charming guesthouses or comfortable local hotels!

Please let us know if you have found an accomodation on your own: this will aid our volunteers in planning and helping find accomodations for everyone!

Music printouts

You will receive most of the musical material per email, which you should print out at home. It will also be possible to print out a set of music upon arrival in the village, for which there would be a small additional printing charge. Certain pieces of music are author copyrighted: for these pieces we have made a group purchase of the rights. The cost of this is very small and is included in the participation fees. Choir members are asked to bring a black looseleaf folder or notebook for the printed music, which allows for rearranging or adding sheets as necessary. We advise placing music in plastic covers, as this sometimes make reading the music difficult under the strong lighting during concerts!)
